Re: mash tun??
Hi I have contacted brew build I like the thermo pot they offer, I just need a price which includes a tap and false bottom. If that fails I like the igloo cool box from homebrew shop.

And the concern was with BPA which I mentioned, not leeching plastic generallythemadhippy wrote:but they aint concerned about giving other countrys healthy doses of depleated uraniumhave seen lots of concerns on the American sites regarding using plastics with food

Re: mash tun??

I'm old enough and daft enough to remember similar scare stories around Microwaves, and once sat in a service station cafe eating breakfast and listening to a proper tin foil hatter rant at the waitress about them not having anything that didn't involve a microwave and how the left over radiation would cause an epidemic of early life cancers.
I'm just thankful we dodged that bullet by stopping using the infernal things...
Then there's the GM foods scaremonger faux science nonsense..
Seriously though, even if there is something to it, it's not like your hot mash is in there for a long period of time, and even though we might like it to be, beer is not our staple diet, so there are far more important things to be stressing over imo.
Re: mash tun??
For my mash tun I use an ex blue 50l mango barrel wrapped up in 3 sleeping bags and I loose 1 degree over 90mins. I'm going to move to stainless thermo pot eventually just for cosmetic reasons.

I have had both, highly recommended. The Igloo being square rather than rectangular also helps if you want to fly sparge. Buy the thermo pot and you never have to worry about an MT again. Go for a top tap and you have future proofed it too.

Re: mash tun??
I should think most, if not all brewers who mash have used or still use plastic MTs without issue. I've used one for approx 40 years, (albeit with a large gap in between) with no problems. I'm about to move over to a thermo pot but only for reasons of increasing capacity and cosmetic pleasure.
Best wishes
