The bloke at Intrico gave me a hard time gave me a hard time about the glass-filled polypropylene Camlocks not being food-safe. I looked up the seal material (BUNA rubber) and it's fine for brewing. I eventually ordered my first set of bits from Action-Sealtite, but Intrico have a better range including funnies like 3/4" fittings to go with 1/2" hose. If you don't mind the slight extra cost, the Snaptite ones from Action-Sealtite are better made than Intrico's and are easier to open and close.

If you say anything about brewing to these people, they want you to buy "hygienic" stainless fittings which are much more expensive.

:D

He never gave me a hard time about the materials themselves - as you say, the seals are Buna-N and the bodies are SS. However he went to great pains to point out that there was a possibility of bacteria hiding themselves behind the seals and that I should pop the seals out to sanitise.

Fair enough. I wonder if they have to point stuff like that out legally. I'll give him his due, he never tried to upsell me to anything more expensive and was extremely interested in my brewing.

However - the bits never arrived yesterday, or today for that matter. Not that I had a brewday planned, but nonetheless...

I think our post office is still fecked from the pathetic snow. I've had some stuff arrive overnight (Wheeler book) and other stuff that's been in the post for a while not turn up at all yet....

My fittings arrived this morning and they are pretty impressively made!

They seem to connect and disconnect very easily (really?!?) and are extremely solid. I think these will make life much easier - especially with cleaning out the plate chiller after use.

I'll try and get a brew on at the weekend and post some shiny porn then. I'm off to Munich in a short while....hopefully I'll get a chance to drink some decent German beers.
