Im going to have a go at one of these over the weekend. As im a johna ill be using the push fit type fittings.

I think with my H&G boiler though that the mesh may well be above the elemements, does this matter?

Also what is this syphon method thing that people are mentioning?

An anology of the syphon effect is to think of a train going along a plain then climbing a hill before decending over the hill into a valley below the plain. As long as the valley is below the level of the plain gravity will keep pulling the train until the last carriage has been pulled over the top of the hill.

Plain = boiler floor

Hill = hop stopper into 90d bend to boiler tap

Valley below= Tubing attached to boiler tap

Thanks gunner thats makes sense.

So basically i just need to attatch a piece of tubing to the end of my H&G plastic tap. Does it have to go inside tap or over the tap?

it doesn't matter whether it's inside or out, as long as the tubing hangs lower than the inside of the boiler.

I use 5/8'' (16mm) tubing over my drum tap.

Thanks for all the advice guys i appreciate it. I made mine this morning and ill be testing it later. Though id just add a few hops to some water to test it just incase there is a problem.

Ive just used this on a brew for the first time and what can i say, im chuffed to bits, it absoutely flew through lol. Not much crap got through it at all just about 1/2" of break material and no hop bits at all so that will do me fine.

Im getting into this DIY brewing equipment and i can feel a ball valve tap comming on :D

Hi folks,

Have just bought some of this stuff:

Do you think it will be OK or will it be too fine?

Cheers.

Damn. Arrived this morning too. Wasn't planning on soldering though. Have you used it yet? If so, have there been any problems?

Cheers

yeah i used it a couple of times befor i revamped my hop strainer (thats where the blow torch came it ) and it worked a treat, run off was nice and clear, it was just after i burnt it while soldering that it rusted up.

Well, I made something similar to this instead: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3627/347 ... d39c53.jpg

Very chuffed with it actually! Would upload a picture but there is no picture option available.
