I'm the mean time, I'm making a list of bits I need to turn it into a HLT (and boiler, for initial BIAB efforts).

Current on the list are Tesco value kettle elements, and a ball valve. But... I can't think of what I need to attach the ball valve to. So, if I got a 10397 1/2" BSP from BES, what do I need to fix it to the barrel?

More worryingly, why can't I work it out myself. I just can't picture the back end.

Thanks
Hi mate, do you have the eBay link? Can't seem to find them at that price

Four kettles from Asda. Done. Felt weird but good at the same time! My two mango chutney barrels should be here soon to complete my new hlt and kettle

My local Tesco hasn't had any in for weeks! The ones I got are pretty much the same though

I fitted the elements to the blue barrel this afternoon.

No leaks, and I was impressed that I managed it.

Barrel's have arrived! Been thinking about the HLT. Going to use a tank connector but though instead of having to get rid of that ridge inside it, just not bother putting the copper pipe all the way through? So it's just the hole on the inside and the tap connecting on the outside?

Also interested in fitting a thermometer to my hlt so I can keep the lid on to keep it warm. Looking for a probe type that can be fitted like this pic, any idea where to get one? Cheers Image
