Also look at 3 phase contactors as a good alternative to big relays
if you go down that route make sure theve got 240v coils, not 415v.

They are fine mate! Pic is a bit misleading tho. You got the beds to sit them in? Maplins is another option. Also expert elect do 240v coil contractors for £8 so prob work out slightly cheaper. Although bigger but the siz e of your panel can't see its a prob

No need for a base, female spade crimps should push on nicley, for added saftey get the fully insulated version

I think the spade crimp terminals 'work' just as well, but compared to a base they introduce more chance of mistakes should you ever come to replace the relay.

If you're building it for your own use i'd say thats not going to be such a problem, but if it may be used/maintained by others in the future, who didn't design it, its better practice to use a proper base/socket.

Without going through the electric brewery site I don't know if its appropriate, but SSRs with a 240v control/input may be another option to consider instead of mechanical relays.

The trouble I`m having at the moment is finding a base suitable for this relay, looked in maplins earlier (nothing), been searching on line and cant find anything. Relay ref is "JQX-12F".

If anyone can find a suitable socket to use I would be gratefull, if not I`ll use the spade terminals. As I already have the relays, I didnt at this moment in time want to change things too much from the original design - might change a few things afterwards tho.

The relay is designed to use crimps,or solder conctions, theres mounting lugs on 1 side,. its common even with a base,to wire the terminals with spade crimps
they introduce more chance of mistakes should you ever come to replace the relay
identifiy each cable with number /letter rings, something like"RL1-1,RL1-2,were the last nuber is the same as the relay pin

The socket is still proving to be very elusive, I`m beginning to think that there simply isnt one for a 30a relay, so its going to be panel mount + connectors

Decision now made.... Cant afford to buy any other components for the build ie more than a few "contactors". No luck in finding a suitable base for the 30a relays.

So in the interests of getting the build going and getting it in use the relays I have, will be panel mounted + crimped connections, until any further upgrades are required.

sounds sensible to me - the crimp connectors work properly and its not like you're making it for public consumption.

A bit of a strange request, but as part of the project I wanted to label all the wires in the cabinet with heat shink tubing.

Anyone have a manual for (or know where to dl one) for a TYCO SMS T107M label machine? + can you use dymo labels with this machine?

EDIT now found out this is the same machine as the Rhino 5000, so have found all the info required.
