200L Brewery (The new, NEW plan)
Re: 200L Brewery (New Photos added 6/6/2010)
noticed you have used a T - compression fitting for your spinny sparge arm, how did you 'grip' the down pipe but allow it to still spin? Have you used an internal wire thread or flare the end of the pipe? please tell

I think its something so simple as first tightening your compression fitting then taking it off and wrapping PTFE tape around the threads so it doesn't fully tighten home leaving it free enough to spin

The sparge arm was actually made by Brewzone, but pdtnc is correct in his explainationbeermonsta wrote:noticed you have used a T - compression fitting for your spinny sparge arm, how did you 'grip' the down pipe but allow it to still spin? ah - I shall have to try that - thanks chaps. I used a sililar idea using john guest fittings but after a while they don't spin as freely - the last few brew you could hear a thwack thwack at sparge time as I used the stiring spoon to spin the sparge arm around - very tedious for nearly an hour

The brewery is now almost complete, just waiting for another perforated false bottom to arrive off Muddy Disco from the Homebrew forum, then
i should be good to go.
Taps connected to pumps

Sparge arm in action

Pump Switch Control Board

All pumps given a good testing today, everything seems to be running fine, no leaks
and sparge arm working great.
Hoping totest brew at the weekend if the false bottom for boiler arrives.

Glad to hear your pumps are running well and sparge arms spinning! - is it still leaking from under the 'T' ?
Thanks for the chiller coils - they are gleaming after a spin in the dishwasher
Your 'drunken monkey' and 'magic badger' are chilling to drop clear in the fridge - I'll post tasting notes upon supping!
many thanks again.

No i fixed the leak by putting a bit of PTFE tape just above the olive, this also seems to help it spin better, and if it wears i`ll just replace.beermonsta wrote:Glad to hear your pumps are running well and sparge arms spinning! - is it still leaking from under the 'T' ?

Glad you got the coils clean,i didn`t think they would take much cleaning though.
The beer should be just about ready but i`d maybe just leave till the weekend to be sure,

Looking good Haz! I have the same false bottoms which are dead cool
One thing I would say to watch for is the heat from the burner ring. I have a similar setup to yours albeit only 50 litres
. My pumps are a bit lower from the burner than yours and even so they were getting hot, I do have a high pressure burner mind. So It may be worth fitting a heat shield to the pump. Other than that, looks good! Don;t envy you emptying the mash tun, you should get some pigs for the spent grain lol Subsonic
