leaking corny any idea

Hi, I emptied a cory last week and decided i would take the posts and dip dubs out to giv it a good Clean.

All went well and after everything was put back together i do as normal and fill with C02 so that i can just fill next time around.

This time though there was a leak from around the bottom of the out post.

i took it off and saw the o ring looked very worn, so i changed it for one i got from norm.

I re filled the keg, but when i checked this morning the leak is obviously still there as the was no pressure.

The leak came from under the post, so i can only assume the post is not fitting against the dip tube properly.

IS there some kind of seal ( o ring) on the threads of the post normally.
if not does anyone have any ideas?

Well all the bits are in place but it steill leaks.

I am using aan adjustable monkey wrench and can't tighten it any more with that.

maybe i can try the socket sett.

Any other ideas. can i did an o ring around the bottom? Maybe try some plumbers tape and try that?

I've only used it about 3 times.

I have only had my cornies for about 4 months
and have resisted the temptation to strip them
down. Did you lube the seal with some Vaseline?
Could it be you are over tightening and the seal
is distorting? Sorry I am not much help am I?

It shouldn't need to be tightened all that much to seal - just a nip with the spanner should do it.....

You should have an O-ring on the dip tube itself between the lip of the dip tube and the internal part of the post. Check that all the surfaces are clean and smooth - maybe give it a shine with some fine grade wet and dry paper if you are in doubt. Then there's just the poppet valve in the post itself - pop that out and check that it's clean and smooth too.

Sounds like the poppets arnt sealing properly.Try pouring a kettle full of boiling water into the keg,seal it up and invert it for 5 mins.....I find that it softens the plastic on the poppet and helps it to reseat itself!!

I'll give it a try. I tried changing the posts over as well. And the same thing happened on the out side. I almost get the impression that something is either not screwing down properly or that the thread is somehow damaged. If after you advice there is still a leak i'll have to try some o rings or plumbers tape i guess?

after trying all the advice here there was no joy. I found a small o ring that was a tight fit over the thread to the out post, and screwed the post down. Emptied a couple of charger cartridges into it and sprayed with soapy water. So far so good. I imagine that unless there is a leak the pressure will stay in the keg until i empty it? I'll check again next week. Thanks for all the help. Now to prepare for this evenings brew:)
