The ones most folk use have the separate bases, i.e. are "cordless" .
The element still has prongs that a kettle lead will fit but there is no insulation or shroud so you need to improvise a suitable cover.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago from Morrisons, this was after checking Tescos, 2 Argos, Sainsburys, 2 Asdas, Homebase !

Is buying a whole cheapo kettle cheaper than just buying the element from a spares shop or ebay?
