Where can i buy budget kettle?

The ones most folk use have the separate bases, i.e. are "cordless" .

The element still has prongs that a kettle lead will fit but there is no insulation or shroud so you need to improvise a suitable cover.

Theyre out of stock for home delivery, obviously none at his local store either.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago from Morrisons, this was after checking Tescos, 2 Argos, Sainsburys, 2 Asdas, Homebase !

Is buying a whole cheapo kettle cheaper than just buying the element from a spares shop or ebay?
Has anybody tried using a dishwasher or washing machine element?

err, generally yes. £4.99 for whole kettle, versus £15+ for an element plus an extra few £ for a lead.

if you check out how many folk have actually done this and made a decent boiler for next to nowt, you'll see why.

Depends where you shop (and live) I got elements with leads from the little electrical shop in my village, £5.50 each. An extra 51p was well worth the saved hassle of hacking a kettle or two!
