stc 1000 build

Post by timbobist » Sun Nov 27, 2011 9:06 pm

Just got my stc 1000 from china and thought i would share the build with you guys. :D

i bought an enclosure and cut the holes in the lid for the temperature control and the sockets
Image

then it was time to fit the temperature control and the back box for the sockets and fit 2 stuffing glands 1 for the incoming supply 1 for the temperature probe

now its time for the wiring, because i wanted to control my hlt 3kw element with it i had to incorporate a 15a relay to the heating side as the unit only comes with a 10a relay built in.

lastly it was time to put it all together and it was finished 1 mobile temperature control unit!, all it needs is some labels for the heating and cooling sockets, the heating is on the left cooling on the right. i will be using it for controlling sparge water temp and also the temp of my fermenting fridge.

Nice build timbobist... The STC-1000 seems to be a very popular choice for homebrewers...

Thanks for sharing...

Looks good that the flexibility that a mobile unit brings is a great aspect.

What temperature sensor did you use?

It was fairly easy to wire the tc comes with a wiring diagram on the back, its from China but all the instructions are in English, I got it from ebay. The probe that came with it is the black rubber type, I think you might be able to get a metal ended one but I wasn't fussed as long as it did the job :)

Thats if its not patented of course. :)

Could you give me some help with the relay please. What type is it and where can I get one. I want to rewire one of my STC-1000 and include a relay so I can use it to control my HLT.

Thanks

This might be of interest to those who are just happy to do the wiring:

hi steve, i got the relay from maplin cost about 2 pound heres a link http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/15a240vac-spd ... elay-n07aw as well as the relay i bought the din rail adapter, the relay plugs into it and you use the screw terminals on it to make the connections :)

Hi Steve

Another option is the 30A relay from maplin, maybe over-cautious but it works a treat.
Relay: 30A SPDT Power Relay (PwrRly30A SPDT240Vac )
part:N24AW Maplin Link Here & Socket N19AW

See post started by Kev
13A/3kw temperature controller?
Post with details of above relay

Its really handy to be able to control HLT temp on brewdays. The rest of the time its looking after fermenting fridge.

The controllers can only handle a maximum of 10 Amps. Thats fine for running a small heater in a fermenting fridge, or a fridge, but no good for running a 3kW element in an HLT.

The relay is in place as a switch that can handle the higher current.

And as Kev has reiterated, up to 13A.
