Corny capacity of (current) fridges and freezers
Due to keggerator problems I'm thinking of buying new fridge(s) or chest freezer(s).
If anyone has currently available models, could you possibly say what and how many cornies they take?
Many thanks,
Kev

I have a a norfrost 175L chest freezer. I'm pretty sure its the same model as this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Norfrost-Icet ... vi-content
It does however need a collar to get the right height, but that wasn't an issue with me. I currently have 4 kegs inside, but you could easily fit 6, I just placed my taps in the way.

the only worry I have =, that I only noticed when I slipped and slighlt dropped my keg in to the freezer, is that the bottom wont hold up to 4+ full cornys. It should do, but I may have to take a look underneath and see if it need strengthening.

Just a quick question casamodo, with your purpose made collar whats the overall height of the thing? I noticed from the ebay advert its 850 mm originally.
Cheers

I Just Bought Myself an Iarp AB500PV fridge, which will take 6 Cornelii . . . Plus ample bottle space on top . . . Or another 6 11.5l or 9L Cornelii.
Not Cheap at 500 quid but it is a catering fridge, and built well.

has anybody mouted a drip tray for one yet, been looking but can't find any decent wall mounted at reasonable prices.
i'm thinking a normal drip tray held up by magnets, would amount to the same thing.

Re: Corny capacity of (current) fridges and freezers
Thanks Cazamodo and Aleman, thats helpful; six is a useful number! I like both of those.
A chest freezer looks nice and easy, and its similar to what I've made before. Thinking about it, I've not tried a larder fridge before, but it would let me have cornies to the ceiling so may be more space-efficient for my setup... In fact I could presumably still put a collar between door and frame and make it deeper in a similar way to making a chest freezer higher... it'd only be operating at about half the designed temperature differential so should have the umph...
So the running list is:
Norfrost C6AWB Chest Freezer = 6 cornies (with a collar to raise the lid)
Iarp AB500PV catering fridge = 6 cornies + bottles
Cheers

105cm Outside, and around 73cm inside. Its around a 6inch collar. It does make it quite tall, but not overly in the way. I still plan to finally have it enclosed with a tower built into it... but thats for when I convince the missus to let it live indoors.barneey wrote:Just a quick question casamodo, with your purpose made collar whats the overall height of the thing? Cheers for that, so to add to Kev`s list a freezer as a rough guide when searching fleabay least 105cm ish on the outside.
Edit.. I just measured a corny keg which height wise was 25" or 635mm high, was the reason behind the collar to fit the 6 kegs in was due to the compressor space? Could you fit 4 kegs in with no collar?
Cheers

Re: Corny capacity of (current) fridges and freezers
My last Kegereezer was a Norforst Aura (C6-AEW-H), which has no Compressor space meaning that the whole floor was level . . . unfortunately it was only 20" deep . . . so it needed a collar . . . as it was replacing a dead Norfrost Freezer (Notice a pattern??) I took the jigsaw to the dead freezer and cut a 12" collar off the top of the old freezer . . . Worked really well, and took 6 kegs . . . Having the collar also makes it easy to fit taps as you do not have to worry about hitting a coolant line.barneey wrote: I just measured a corny keg which height wise was 25" or 635mm high, was the reason behind the collar to fit the 6 kegs in was due to the compressor space? Problems . . .
Air circulation . . giving poor temperature distribution so I Had to add a couple of fans . .
Fun lifting kegs in and out as well
Spills are a PITA to clean up as well . . . and if you don't it all goes mouldy.
Oh and keep them indoors or they have a habit of dying during winter

Ah, thats interesting; especially the winter thing - I seem to recall you even heated the compressor?
I think it may be time to visit some showrooms with a tape measure. Although I'm struggling to find many 'in store' these days; aside from Comet, which I've not had the best experiences with in the past, and Currys who don't seem to stock larder fridges in my local store.
Cheers

Forget the tap measure Kev, just take a keg with you, should keep the sales assistants amused for a while

Especially as they're all full at the moment..
I hadn't fully realised until now just how many appliance-type stores have closed down; looks like I'm off to comet then :-/

Re: Corny capacity of (current) fridges and freezers
ahh sorry that measurement was including the collar, that freezer has a flat base, so you loose the hight all the way along, rather than freezers that have the compressor sort of boxed in at one side. The actual depth inside from the bottom of the freezer to the rim is around 530mmbarneey wrote:Cheers for that, so to add to Kev`s list a freezer as a rough guide when searching fleabay least 105cm ish on the outside.

Oh and keep them indoors or they have a habit of dying during winter #-o[/quote]
Why is that? Mine has died and come back to life.....kinda. winter 2010 was very cold and it stopped working for a while. I turned it off and after a month I turned it on and it got going intermittently but then returned to normal duty. The same thing has happened this year although it really is acting up now but it is chilling but I have to turn it off every other week for a week as it stops altogether and then it usually kick in when I turn it back on. Any ideas?
