Cheap hop strainer, it actually works

Post by alix101 » Wed Dec 12, 2012 4:41 pm

I've used this a couple if times and I can't fault it's efficiency, it was more by luck than judgement but I'm delighted it hasn't blocked and I've had a great flow rate, so I thought I would share some info as opposed to ask for it at just over a quid its a bargain IMHO, I was worried about the nylon thread taking the heat as of yet no problems.

Good find andy I just checked the postage on pumps uk and it was £6.50...so ebay is a much better choice.

Hello mate, have you tried this on both leaf and pellet, sick to bloody death of blocked hopstrainers!

Are we happy that the nylon is food safe?

Can the mesh be detached from the nylon?

The mesh can't be taken off the nylon without breaking it. As for nylon being food safe! It certainly won't melt and , alot if kitchen utensils are made from it but, I can't find a specific data sheet to confirm.
I haven't tried it with pellets,.infact I've never tried pellets full stop but I don't mind an experiment. :D

Some nylons are food safe, anyway.

Link to US FDA Regulations, regarding Ploymers.

I think I read somewhere that you can use non coloured nylon tights as hop socks..... just make sure you wash em after you've worn em before you use em :D

My one arrived today from ebay looks smaller than the ukpumpsupplies one but looks good all the same. Thinking perhaps I should have gone with two!
