hop filter

Post by danb » Mon Feb 17, 2014 9:14 pm

The run off from my boiler is really slow, it took about 40 minutes on the last brewday. I currently have an l shape copper pipe with around 80 3mm holes in it. It worked fine for the first 3 batches but the last 2 have been awful and slow.
I've had an idea to make a different filter similar to the domed false bottom in my mash tun. From a stainless tray with holes drilled in it. A tank connector and elbow with a piece of pipe to the tap outlet. Any body use similar or think it would work? Thanks

You may want to check out items 10, 11, or 12 from this page:

Work great for me. Also I limit myself to 50% pellet max in any recipe so the whole hops can filter most pellets/break successfully.

I have number 11 in my mash run, that's where I got the idea. I'll drill more holes tomorrow and use it next time, see how it goes.
