Grain mill make?

Post by Wonkydonkey » Sat Mar 01, 2014 11:23 am

Hi guys, I'm collecting new items for my brewing, and I like the idea of crushing my own grain,
the last time I brought 50kg of grain, it took me some time to use it all up, I did not notice any real difference in the % of the extracted sugars, maybe because I have been doing different brews.
But anyway back to the gain mill Q.... From what I have read about the grain mill. You get a better taste from freshly crushed grain. Also the grain last longer when it's whole and not crushed. This may well be only noticed in places where it can be very hot, ie, in oz.. Would Anyone like to clarify this ? Does this happen in the uk...

So I been looking around and around for a grain mill. Then someone comes up on fleabag with some to sell. It looks like a job lot because if you look at the other items they have, they are selling a few around the world. Ie in oz and Italy etc.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6040Home-Brew ... 2a37978860

So can some one tell me which make is this grain mill on fleabag.

Is it a barley crusher, or a millers mill. They really look the same to me . Also any other good or bad comments about the mills would be greatly received.

Thanks guys

There is this one for half the price, though it doesn't look as substantial,
Best wishes

It's a cheap Chinese Knock off of a Barley Crusher with the 7lb hopper

It depends on how good a copy it really is. I have a barley crusher with the 15lb hopper and I love it, considering that the barley crusher is only $119 from the original site and the dollar rate is reasonably low at the moment ($1 ~= £0.62ish) . . . would make the real thing better value considering you are also adding 14 quid carriage to it.

Cheaper genuine article . . . Or Chinese clone . . . No Contest for me ;)

I will also say that if I was in the market for a mill again it would be theCrankenstein 3D . . . not because there is anything wrong with the BC, but I would rather go for the 3 roller mill . . . that does come at a considerable extra cost though

Thanks aleman,
But what makes you say it's a Chinese copy, it's not that I don't beleave you, I was wondering how you came to that answer.
I think Fleabag's has a policy of copies/fakes, so I'd think that if anyone has brought one, they could claim a refund.

As for the crankestine 3D it's out of my price,

I'll look into the cost of getting one from the states, am I right in be leaving there is no vat on machinery, does a mill class as machinery.

Sean.

Well, that timely little exchange has saved me the bother of asking the same thing. Genuine article it is then!
