TANK DRAINAGE

Post by pete57 » Sat Mar 01, 2014 9:23 pm

This subject as probably been discussed many times before. Just built a bottle washer and when ive finished a cycle I need to drain the sanitizer and water.
The tank is just a cheap plastic box and ive fitted a 1/2 inch tank connector to the bottom. problem is the connector stands proud on the bottom of the tank so you cant fully drain it. Any ideas, suggestions appreciated.

A deck/skin fitting from ASAP supplies should help

my sanitizer stays there for weeks, surely doesn't need draining after every sanitising session!
Now cleaning is another matter! Oxy Clean rinsed and drained into the sink.

bop a bend on the back of your tank connector and with some hose on the front of the tap you can make use of the syphon effect.
I use this on all my vessels and it's pretty close to full empty

not so simples the box is virtually enclosed and I don't really want to contaminate the bottle washer .

This is more like what I was thinking. although I don't think it will fully drain it will be better than the tank connector at present.

perhaps but I sanitise and then rinse . but if the sanitiser is still in the tank when I rinse I need to rinse again and again.

Not quite sure what you mean. Could you send a pic or drawing?

difficult to visualise the problem take a pic or 6 ;) a tank connector could be mounted without a washer if u use a smear of lsx to replace it. and some have ground down or ground a notch to enable the minimising of deadspace in brew vessels..

if u cant get to it to dry it with a sterile towel?? perhaps sitting it in direct sunlight or by a radiator to evaporate off any residual liquid, but if enclosed thats not gonna work??

salt or any other anhydrose substance, rice, newspaper balls??

as its a bottle washer, why worry about contaminating it? the next bout of cleaning will also clean the box de-facto.

good idea about grinding a notch or a flat on the washer . I have fitted the seal inside the tank, might be better outside like you say.
