Cleaning a sight glass

My sight glass is almost black in places. Yes I know... should have cleaned it little and often...

Any ideas on how to clean it? Last time I held it in a vice, put a small piece of cloth i there and knocked it through using a screwdriver and a hammer. Bit of a performance!

Any one got any better ideas? Steep in citric acid overnight maybe?

Or steep in pwb, it's supposed to get rid of anything crud wise.

Mr lard sells nice brushes for this, handy for dalex tap cleaning too...
