Annoying 3/4" to 22mm connection problem

Post by Five-Oh » Tue May 06, 2014 11:34 am

Hello,

I have three of these 60l Brupaks fermenters - http://www.brupaks.com/vessels%20plastic.htm - no doubt some of you will be familiar with them.

They have a 3/4" tap hole, threaded internally, of course. My issue is that I have a 22mm threaded tap that I need to connect somehow. The reason for this is that I need to connect a bottle filler to it, which has a 3/4" female threaded connector, so of course, I'll need a similar adapter, assuming there is such a thing, on the tap, too. Hopefully this makes sense to at least a couple of you! I'd have attached pictures that would have made it a bit clearer, but BBCode is turned off for me, so I can't.

Anyway, if anyone knows of a solution to this annoying issue, I'd be most grateful.

I use those FV's, albeit the 30 ltr ones. IMO the tap is there for drawing off samples, it's placed far too high to be of any use for bottling. I use an autosyphon into a dedicated bottling bucket.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I won't be bottling from it directly I'll be connecting a three-head bottler to it, hence the quandary.

the regular "drum taps" that you often get in homebrew shops are 3/4" bsp thread and accept 3/4" ID (19mm) hose.
this should get you from A to B with the right hose. plus they are food grade plastic.

alternatively a 3/4" bsp stainless joiner for the fermenter and screw on a stainless ballvalve?

Hey Frothy

I completely forgot I had one of these on an old 25l fermenter. I've tentatively connected it to the hose from the bottler and it fits, although ideally I'd be connecting it to the 3/4" threaded connector on the bottler hose, so I can stick a mesh filter on there.

The only threaded 3/4" ball valves I can find don't have a thread on either end, hence my buying a 22mm one, assuming (wrongly, it seems) that there'd be an easy solution for getting the two connected.
