Think this has been touched on before. Just wondering if anyone uses the solar pump for transferring to FV? If so, do you run some star san through first etc? cheers

Got a gravity system but only enough levels for HLT in to mash, then mash in to kettle which is on the floor. Wanted to use one of these to transfer to the FV which will also be on the floor.

Cheers

Yes, clean the pump, and to sanitise recirculate the boiling wort for the last 15 mins.. a tattoo gun psu can be got via ebay for less than a tenner for a simple twist knob controller too.

You can control the speed via a knob. A potentiometer.

Dumb question: can you not use a ball-valve on the solarpumps output, because it's not mag-coupled?

Ah, I'd just want it on full. I was thinking silicone tube from kettle to pump, then a length of copper from the pump the same height as fv. Gonna look for fittings which will cause a spray effect too so the wort aerates as it goes into the fv

No idea, I saw it when I was looking for other parts and thought it might be useful for fly sparging. 19mm is the smallest pipe they do though, too big for 1/2 inch tube.

It's how I use mine and I do let it soak in Starsan for awhile even though I use it immediately after switch off, but I run it through the plate chiller recirculating into the boiler until the wort is circa 30c. I then let it settle for 1/2 hour to allow the copper finings to do their thing then run into FV.
