Connecting a " K Type thermometer probe" to STC-1000

Post by paz1 » Wed Jun 04, 2014 3:14 pm

Hi All,

Is it possible to connect a thermocoupler like this [url][/http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290923162457? ... EBIDX%3AIT] to a STC-1000? If so, is it a case of connecting the probe to the STC-1000 like you would with the sernor that comes with STC-1000?

Many thanks for your help.

Paresh

There is no way to change the type of thermocouple you can use with an STC-1000 so you are stuck with the type supplied which is an NTC type.

You could ask MrLard if he's got a 3m NTC probe you could use.

Think u can just extend the lead yourself its just thermocouples you need to use specific metals for afaik..

just use similar thin guage wire and make good solid connections tin n solder rather than twist together, And belt n braces test the temp reading before committing :)
anyway if im wrong someone will be along to shoot me down ;)

test in iced water for a close to 0C benchmark and the steam escaping off the surface of boiling water should be close to 100C gravity n pressure depending ;)
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

Thanks jmc and fil.
I was thinking of just using the original sensor prob, but was worried about the prob sitting in 68c mash for 90 mins. Would that damage the prob and more importantly is the plastic of the prob safe to sit in mash at that temperature? I know the range of the STC-1000 is up to 99c, but just worried about the contact time.

One of mine stays in the HLT ranging from 74C (mash)->86C(sparge) during a brew day.
That one's had over 80 brew days and is still fine.

Obviously if it was in MT wort you'd need to make sure it was cleaned until it was spotless after each brew but other than that I'd say you'd be fine.
