Hello,
I had my first AG experience on Saturday, and I (or my back actually:) ) realised how important is to have a pump!
What type of pump would you recommend from your experience?
Cheers!
What type of pump should I get?
Re: What type of pump should I get?
I can recommend the pumps from mrlard. http://www.homebrewbuilder.co.uk/pumps.html. Get one of the mini mag coupled pumps. I have three of them now and they work great. Here's a picture of mine mounted on a stand.Mther wrote:Hello,

What have you got the 2 separate pumps doing?
I have just bought 1 from Mr Lard too.

I'm really pleased with how the pumps work. Here you can see them in operation circulating the mash and HLT water via a HERMS coil:LeeH wrote:How have you got the 2 separate pumps doing?

The second picture shows the finished wort being pumped through the CFC and being collected prior to transferring to the fermenter:

They have worked flawlessly now through 6 brews. I guess only time will tell how long they will work, but so far no performance problems.

That's great, thanks.

Re: What type of pump should I get?
I’ve only used my new system once in anger, as yet, I also use two pumps.
I use as chastuck does, and also during sparging when the water pump takes water from the HLT through the sparge arm (via the HERMS coil to also flush the previously recirculated mash) into the mash tun, and the wort pump takes the wort from the mash tun to the boiler – at the same rate hopefully... with a bit of valve adjusting.
Sparging - although you can't see the actual pumps, two are being used as decribed above. Can just about make out the boiler wort level in the sight tube.

Sorry to hijack but does anyone have any schematics or design docs for these kind of set ups? I have been given a corner of the kitchen for a permanent setup. I think my parner is fed up wih trailing mess! Ive asked on here before but got no pick up...I want to do a herms set up but cant find any good guides online based on parts available in the uk...
Re: What type of pump should I get?
Got an email address? PM me if you have. I have a guide that I drew up for my own use in my Electric Brewery, just in case I got confused with all the pumps and pipes! I can email it to you. Also have a look here at my HERMS pot: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showt ... hp?t=41909hophit wrote:Sorry to hijack but does anyone have any schematics or design docs for these kind of set ups?
