Homark beer engine parts

Post by Cazamodo » Thu Jun 12, 2014 4:58 pm

I'm sure barneey has been waiting for a post like this

I recently got a 5 pump Homark beer engine. I have been sanding, buffing, washing, scrubbing, and just generally getting annoyed but everything is cleaning up nicely. In fact most of the o-rings look good and anrent damaged at all.

The only problem is 3 of the on-return valves have perished. They use a flat rubber seal. The only replacement can find for this is http://cfbsonline.co.uk/index.php/handp ... eturn.html

I'll probably replace all 5... so at £20 a hit that's a bit much. I cant seem to find anything anywhere else that will do the job. So before I commit to these, just wanted to know if anyone else has found anything similar?

Good to know you have started the project + most of the rings were OK.

The rubber seal from memory are approx. a £2.00 coin size?

What about making your own from a silicone sheet? thickness to suit

I cant fault CFBS for their customer service but the spares are a little expensive.

Yea just smaller than a 2 piece.

They seem to go through the puece of plastuc a d are all one piece, not sure id secure my own easily.

May just go with the replacements as i know they would hold.

Im pleased they are cleaning up so well too!

Slowly getting there with these.

I'm tempted to lubricate all the orings when I seal it back up, but not sure if is needed or wise to do so.

Been going through all the parts cleaning them up. God theres a lot of bits!

Found some tiny orings in the cylinders, where the piston passes through. Theres two o-rings sandwiched between two plastic rings with smaller orings inside.
The small ones are all gone, so I took a quick measure, and ordered some from ebay. Hope theyre the right size, but for a couple quid for 25 cant complain. I need 10.

Well everything is cleaned. Replacement hose tails arrived.
O-rings arrived and were too thin. Right ID but too thin so ordered a pack of 1.5mm and 2mm just to be sure...

Will put the cylinders back together when they arrive. If they're finally the right size. I'm hoping the rest of the seals are OK. They look in good condition. I only worry about the rubber plungers as they feel quite stiff.

A labour of love project, but a good one at that. Your be one of a few with home brewers with a 5 pump display.

I'm still trying to convince myself I can actually use it.... Maybe a selection of 5 10L polypins in a chilled cupboard built in underneath it to have serving at parties...

Use it as a show piece, in reality I bet you will only use a couple of the pumps for home use.

Yep. The missus still needs convincing that it should be on show first :P

I was asked to brew 3 firkins for a wedding in August, so thats my goal in getting it put back together and working so I can set it up to serve that beer.

I see disasters on the horizon haha

Well the orings came today. Perfect fit. Put the cylinders back together. First one worked perfectly! Good start.

The other 4... Sounds like something sucking, air comes out where it should. But not pulling in water.

Only thing I cant think is the plungers are done.

Going to order 4 new ones and a couple seals while I'm at it and see what happens from there...
Too far in to give up now!

Even with all these extra bits, I think you should still be on budget for a very good set up. :D

Well bad news.

The seal kits inly come in kits. rung CFBS today and they get them in a kit. So for 2 orings and a diaphram from each kit will set me back 41 quid. And I need 4.

Cant quite justify that, especially as I would have loads of parts left over and un used from the kit.
