Brew fridge fight!

Post by pads72 » Mon Jul 21, 2014 12:53 pm

Like many a JBK'er, I bought (off Gumtree) and converted a fridge to act as temperature controller for my FV.

Ok, it's no beauty, only a £15 small under-counter job and it's not in bad nick, but it has to sit in our kitchen, near the back door.

SWMBO hates it! There's a fight brewing ;)

To be fair to her, she's 1 week away from having our 2nd child (planning for a home birth again) and is 'nesting' like a mad thing at home! However, it's like the eye of Sauron has fixed it's gaze and fury on my brew fridge! Her issue is that we've got a nice fitted kitchen, then this ugly freestanding fridge, littered with a box of various homebrews and tools sitting on top :)

I do get her point, but it can't go in the shed, we've no garage (oh I wish we had a garage!) and it serves a purpose for a hobby I love!

So I'm asking the collective hive mind of Jim's - any ideas for assuaging the anger of a heavily pregnant, hormonal SWMBO?

At the moment I'm trying to think of ways to camouflage the thing - clad in wood, maybe?

I would rethink the , "It can't go in the shed" bit. That is where it is bound to end up so you just need to work out how to get it in there ;)

Shed = no power, full to the brim of bikes, brewing kit and tools. :(

Not in shed = death, your death!

Kick out the bikes and run power then build another shed, although if you have a spare bedroom or a large cupboard it could hide in you might be spared.

Good Luck. Aamcle

I had the same issue mate, got mine next to the main fridge. She wasnt too keen at first but when she realised I wont have the FV in the kitchen, then bottles conditioning she kind came round. Plus her Dad has started brewing too so she cant get away from it hahaha

mine is hidden in the built in wardrobe in the spare room, to be fair though, I got the measurements wrong and it's taller than me.

Can the door of the fridge not become an art gallery for child 1, plus some handprints of child 2 when he/she arrives? Or covered in family photos? If you do it as a surprise when SWMBO is having a well deserved snooze what woman could then tell you to get rid. Sacrifice the tools etc on top and replace with flowers and she may make you keep it.

Put some flowers on top she'll never notice

Ha exactly what has happened to mine! The corni on the outside is a temporary measure. I seem to be getting away with this though because I filled it with carbonated water for the family

Actually correction, my brew fridge is in a cupboard on top of the washing machine. I call this "an automated rousing system"

Seems a bit mean, given she's about to produce sprog no. 2!

Cheers for the ideas, another one I saw was to paint the fridge with chalkboard paint and allow the nippers to draw on it!

I made some suggestions to SWMBO, but shed seems to be preferred option (no suprise there, then). I did point out something from the shed would have to migrate indoors to make space ;)

Do you know if your fridge can cope with low winter temperatures outside, some are not designed to work in the cold?

Good point AJ, I'll check. Although if it's that cold, I imagine the tube heater will be in use, rather than the fridge!
