can you put that on a bare gas flame... i.e. cooker ring to sterilise ?

I got a 5ooml one from these people. http://www.creamsupplies.co.uk/index.ph ... uctId=7080 Why do you need a 2 litre? I've always made yeast starters in 500 ml. Also to sterilise just pour boiling water in.

Yes you can. It is borosilicate and will take a nekkid flame :)

I got mine from King Scientific, same supplier that Mr. Dripping posted a link to. It's cheaper to buy it from them direct rather than eBay. A couple of weeks ago I placed an order on their website and eBay at the same time as they have different products and prices and they both arrived quickly and in the same package. Still not as cheap as the 2L version from Cream Supplies that Old Hooky posted though.
