Conical tank
Conical tank
Hi all,
just been looking at some conical fermentor tanks in The Brewshopcom.com web site. I was looking at the stainless ones that are made in Italy and was wondering if anyone has had any experience of these and if quality is good. The pictures of the tanks are not great and does not really show what type of lids are used. Are they value for money or are there better options out there?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Regards.

I wouldn't recommend that type of conical, if you need to know why.......

Ah yes, same as one of the ones I have. Being honest, it does exactly what it's meant to and I whilst I can think of a few things I'd now insist a conical having that this one doesn't, it still works well enough.
Piece of advice, go tri-clamp. Screw fittings are a complete pain in a fermenter, triclamps make everything that much easier and you don't need PTFE or any other such rubbish every time you go to put the thing back together after sterilization.

Re: Conical tank
Apparently the malt miller is importing Chronical ones, you might want to look at those?
Re: Conical tank
Thanks for the replies guys, all good info and helpful, saved me some time and maybe some heartache! As for the malt miller conical, I have seen those and they do look good but I brew around 80ltrs and they are only 26ltrs.

Hi Fatboy Quiff,
The chronicals that Chris mentions above go up to half a barrel and are properly kitted out conicals. Rob may be getting them in. They look very nice indeed and will probably be competitively priced.

Re: Conical tank
Remember that the Chronicals are half US barrel so still not big enough for 80 litres.
Re: Conical tank
Decided to go for the Italian made conical from the thehomebrewshop.com. I had a word with the owner and he assured me that the tank was fit for purpose. Should arrive tomorrow.

The kegs I use, which are Corny copies are made by a company from Italy and sold under the banner of NC Jolly, so they are deffo capable of sanitary welds

That looks like a tig weld with the argon gas turned off! I could do better than that stick welding.
