150 sniffs of the queen
150 sniffs of the queen
Come in to a little money for my system so wondering what everyone would recommend.
So far I've got a 50l HLT with sight glass and thermo well etc, all works a treat.
I've got a 50l Coleman MT, working on mash efficiency but definitely don't think I need a new one!
50l boiler kettle which again works a treat.
Then all the other bits, FVs etc. Got a little brew fridge with STC1000.
I was thinking about some pumps to make life a bit easier. Just the little solar pumps. I also thought about a HERMS system. I've read that can help with efficiency and getting the wort nice and clear etc. Anyone use these and find them beneficial or is there anything people would recommend?
Cheers

I'm too jealous of what you already have to be able to think of anything to add.

I think pumps would be good but the solar pumps are only really any good for liquor. They tend to stop working after a while if you pump wort with them.

Wanna focus on the brewery really. Once I'm happy with that I might start looking at dispensing. I'm happy enough with bottles for nowMashTim wrote:A kegerator beer engines and beer tower.

looks expensive. Buy something like a solar pump first as they're about £15 on ebay, try it, if you like it.
Realistically if you've got a decent AG set up, you have temp controlled fermentation, not much else you need to buy its all just bling from here on in. HERMS/RIMS are useful if you want to do multistep mashes otherwise, waste of time really. I suppose you can use them for getting your mash temp bang on but I go on experience and never have much trouble.

Yeah I know a pump is a bit of a luxury. Dunno if I will setup a HERMS actually. Also I brewed today by using a bucket for mash/sparge liquor and also to add wort and it wasn't that bad. Think I'm just gonna leave it for now and use the money for ingredients!darkonnis wrote:looks expensive. Buy something like a solar pump first as they're about £15 on ebay, try it, if you like it.

Well I've had a few pumps and my kits too big to lift so i wouldnt consider them a luxury. I was more meaning that buying expensive pumps is a waste. Most have a limited life and when i look back on it my original 20L system was probably the most fun as I had my brew day done inside 5 hours start to finish. Now it's a full day job.
