Q max 14 mm.. different
Hi all
I hae got a 14 mm Q max in order to mount a site glass on my boiler.
the thing is it is totally different the larger 21 mm cutter I already have.
The larger one has the cutter and bolt joint together and the tightening screw is secured into the sleeve with a washer.
On the smaller one the cutter is just slid onto the threaded screw, the bolt separate and the screw will slid over the sleeve ( which is not secured in any way.
Can someone give me a hand here please. How is the 14 mm put together, it arrived in bits?
thanks

Place the bolt through the punch identified by having an o/d of the hole required the die is the larger dia piece. Bore a hole 1mm larder than the bolt size place the punch and bolt through the hole, place the die at the rear the nut will probablu have a sholder machined into it which inturn locates into the die. Confused yet??

So a picture paints a thousand words.

This is what I have but I can not fathom out how the collar has any use. When you tighten the alan key/screw it will surely just fall through?

If I understand the query correctly...
Envisage the sheet of steel to be cut in place - the thread is through the pre-drilled hole. The collar provides a female union to the cutting die as it punches through when tightening with the allen bolt.

hmm.
I am really confused.
If I get this correctly now then the collar and threaded nut go onto the inside of the pot so that when the cutter comes through it creates a union for the cutter right?
thing is that when this happens it will all fall through the hole with nothing to stop it... meaning that it will surely create a bur... will it not??

The picture you have posted shows exactly how it has to be set, the collar as you call it is the die the punch will draw through from the other side punching the hole, it may leave a slight bur but this can easily be removed by the use of a file.If you are not confident you havce it set properly try on a piece of scrap and you will see how it works.
