Hose barb cleanliness and strength

Post by Jocky » Wed Oct 15, 2014 9:41 pm

Upgrading to a small 3 vessel brewery and I'm planning out how to connect hoses between vessels. Currently I'm trying to decide whether I should cough up for camlocks or can I get away with just connecting/disconnecting using hose barbs initially.

For one thing - how well do hose barbs hold onto the silicon hoses - can they work on their own without jubilee clips, can you connect/disconnect easily enough for cleaning?

On that point - do the barbs themselves need removing from hoses to clean regularly?

Think I'm going to get cam locks for everything straight away.

Hosebarbs hold on without jubilee clips

Camlocks are the answer. Triclamps even better

Hose barbs will hold silicone hose on with no problem, in fact I normally have to cut the hose to get them off. Camlocks are good but I prefer tri-clovers
Hair of the dog, bacon, butty.
Hops, cider pips & hello.

Name the Movie + song :)
