Hi everyone
Had a pretty successful brew day on Saturday - 5 gallons on Marston's Pedigree clone and a BrewUK Whitehouse Honey Stout under my belt
However, my electrim boiler has started to cut out during the boil. It's got the standard "Simmer-stat" thing and I have it cranked up to 10 but a few times during the boil it cut out as though the thermostat was just maintaining the temp, rather than the boil
Quick question for all you experience brewers: If I just get a 13amp kettle lead and plug this directly in to the element (replacing the kettle lead that comes out of the simmer stat) will this bypass it and just keep it "on" so it just boils?
Thanks very much in advance
Ben
Electrim boiler cut out?
Re: Electrim boiler cut out?
Hi,
I think this is a common problem, it also happened to me, I permanently removed the thermostat, which solved the problem.
However the elements do cut out on their own, especially if the element is not cleaned and de-scaled after each brew, as they have a thermal cut-out built in.
I have just purchased a new element without a thermal cut-out, but not yet tried it.

I'll give that a try and see what happens
I always clean the element, though we're in a pretty hard water area, so it might be a scaling issue
Thanks again

Re: Electrim boiler cut out?
There might be a simple thermal cut out "pod" in the wiring, this looks like a silver toothpaste thingy, simply bypass that, to see if it resolves the problem

The same happened with mine. De scaling helped for a while but eventually had to bypass the thermostat bit. Worked fine after that.
If you look for a new lead, mine has a small cut out bit that a lot of normal kettle leads do not have.
