suitable fermentation fridge for blichmann conical fermenter

Post by oliver tate » Tue Oct 28, 2014 12:05 pm

Hi

I managed to pick up a 2nd hand blichmann conical fermenter at a good price (it's the smallest size they do)

The problem I have is fitting it in my fermentation fridge. The step at the back of the fridge is too deep (ie where the compressor sits at the back). I have tried another couple of under counter fridges but they are the same. It is very close!

Does anybody know of a model of under counter fridge that will fit, one with a small compressor? Or am I going to have to get a larder fridge?

Thanks for any advice

The hotpoint RLA30 fridge and some of the other RLA fridges have more floor space due to sectioned off cooling pump on just 1 side at the back

OR.... have you considered a shelf chiller feeding an IC coil and either heat trace cable or pip heater addition to the chiller for heating all controlled with an stc1000?

you would need to jacket up the conical too but should be able to effect a more efficient temp change and hold a steadier temp too..

the gotcha with the shelf chiller concept is you want the chiller sat above the conical as when below and the pump stops gravity drains the coil coolant back to the waterbath and overflows it DUH!! :)
ist update for months n months..

If the height is not an issue you could just build a collar from wood and insulate it. Basically an open ended box to extend the fridge, then using the hinges from the fridge door and reattach it. I did it so I could ferment more than 1 carboy.

Kind of like this?
