Cider Press Mark 2

Post by DC » Thu Nov 06, 2014 1:04 pm

After building a cider press a couple of years back and having some success with it I decided recently after coming across some suitable material to have a go at making a metal Cider Press, some of the guys at work did the welding and painting =D> I will adapt the original tray and use the original cheese moulds and see how it goes next year !

Nice bit of fabrication there!

One for the cider forum though mods?

As far as I understand a threaded press offers much less pressure than it appears. A hydraulic jack being fiddly but more powerful.

Let's see some pix when you use it in anger.

hey that looks good! i gotta ask though (and please forgive the ignorance, i'm genuinely interested.. ) is it attached to the ground? and if not is there not some kinda weight vs press force limit? ..before the frame lifts from the ground?

Hi Jaroporter, no its not fixed to the ground mate it will stand on a table or suitable blocks of wood and 2x4 pieces of wood across the bottom will hold the press tray from the mark 1 cider press !

This is my v2 press. I've since built v3, of the same design but using 6x2" timber.

Instead of a threaded rod for the press I use a twelve tonne bottle jack. Does the job nicely :)
