Very long stem insertion thermometer?

Post by Kev888 » Mon Dec 22, 2014 7:59 pm

I've seen some thermometers made for measuring compost, which have very long stems, like this:

something similar would be very convenient for checking mash temperature at different places, or monitoring by plopping through a tiny hole in the lid. No wires flopping about or getting tangled up in the mash paddle etc.

My wish list would be for a Celsius scale, up to 100c, 400-450mm long, hygenic probe and and ideally splash resistant. With either a large dial or a decent sized digital display to make it more legible without glasses. A specification given for the accuracy (as opposed to resolution) would be really helpful, say around 1c or better...for not much money

Has anyone got one they could recommend or even just seen something along these lines available in the UK?

Cheers

Have you tried this website http://www.omega.co.uk/pptst/G_DIALTEMP.html ? I've used the ones that come with pond filters to measure my compost temperature, but those are not very accurate.

Thanks, I'd not seen that site, thats most helpful :)

A bit costly unfortunately, but crucially they have specs for accuracy and +/- 1% of full scale isn't too bad. Poking around their site some of the other models look potential as well, with various options possible on ranges and lengths, looks like a good place to know about.
