Submersible pumps?
Submersible pumps?
I was wondering if one of these http://www.whalepumps.com/rv/siteFiles/ ... pGuide.pdf would work to pump hot wort from the underback to the boiler? I've searched the forum and back in 2008 there was a post which said they actually stopped worked above 60C, the rated temperature. I would think that the wort would still be hotter than this even by the end of the sparge, has anybody had any recent experience with these Whale pumps? I could use my 12V solar pump but that is inline only, it just seems easier just to drop the pump into the bucket, and at the moment making brewday easier is the goal!

I know they say submersible, i daren't do it , just run hot water through. I would have to get a spare before risking it!Fil wrote:lil brown solar pumps are submersible.. its how i clean/rinse mine

Re: Submersible pumps?
I know they can work under water, as when I cleaned mine last weekend it fell into the bucket and was there for a quarter of an hour before I realised! I couldn't see anywhere on the instructions though that they were submersible, so I've emailed the solar co-op to see what they think, as I'm still dubious about dropping them in hot wort for 10 minutes. For a tenner I might buy one of the pumps similar to the original post just to try them, I need another pump anyway for an irrigation system in a small polytunnel that I'm putting up, so it can be used for that if no good for brewing. I'll let you know how I get on.
