Will 1.5" tri-clamps give me enough inner-diameter for 200l
Will 1.5" tri-clamps give me enough inner-diameter for 200l
Hey guys,
I'm just wanting to make sure 1.5" tri-clamps, which seem to allow hose barbs up to 38MM OD, from the
seller I'm looking at, will be wide enough for a 200l setup.
cheers
Chris

Been speaking to someone who works in a microbrewery, apparently they use that size tri-clamp, so will be fine

Really that's to big.i use 11/2 on my 2000l setup inch or half inch would be fine you'll find the larger the diameter the bigger the cost ...valves hose pumps etc ...It will of course work .

Would agree might be over kill, but 1.5" stuff is easily available & fairly standard stuff , hose barbs can be sourced to suit a wide range of silicone hose. The flange is also the same as that used on the 1" tri-clover stuff.
BTW if you are ever after some 18mm ID x 28mm od silicone heavy duty hose let me know.

I ordered tri-clamps from this seller, promptly received, I think under 2 weeks, great price and quality if good for me.chris2012 wrote:Sure, check this guy - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/doubleturbo201 ... =861496619
Just watch out cos' many clamps are quoted as OD so the half inch size is too small, approx 13od/9.5id, the next size up is great 19od/16.5id
Very pleased, I used it to reduce valving and just swap between MLT/BK rather than use jubilee's and price from china makes it no more expensive than QDs

cheers roscoe for that info!
I'm a bit confused, are you referring to the size of the hose barbs?
At the moment I've got 1/2" silicone, so you're saying i need the 19mm hosebarb?

Re: Will 1.5" tri-clamps give me enough inner-diameter for 2
mmm, can't recall exactly, but the hosetails offered are OD 12 then OD19
the OD12 was to small for me, whilst the bigger 19mm are a stretch but my 1/2 silicone when on fine, no need for a clip !
why-o-why do some use ID and other OD, must be bins of misordered stuff all over the world !
(supposely pipe is OD, whereas tube is ID)

Re: Will 1.5" tri-clamps give me enough inner-diameter for 2
Just make sure if you go down the 1.5" tri clover route of the following:-
The Flange size on the fitting needs to be 50mm (ish), to confirm that 1" & 1.5" triclover stuff both have a 50 mm flange.
2" triclover stuff has a 63mm flange, don't get them mixed up.
If you go for the 1/2" tubing (stuff Vossy) used to sell a 15mm OD hose tail is a good fit (try a 15mm piece of copper pipe on the hose you have to check).
again.... Triclover is measured by BORE size not flange size & with translation its very easy for things to get mixed up.

Re: Will 1.5" tri-clamps give me enough inner-diameter for 2
in which case isnt the bore of the 1/2" bsp end going to be the bottleneck, and not the max ID of the 1.5" triclamp fittings??chris2012 wrote:Oh these are pretty cheap, just ordered a 1/2" BSP-->1.5" Tri-clamp for £4 from fleabay
few tips from my limited experience with triclamp fittings via ebay, some learnt the wrong way..
always double check the measurements used, some describe the fitting by the flange diameter, and others by the max bore dimension, im fairy sure ive seen multiple ways of describing the fittings from the same seller even...
when ordering the bits for a triclamp assembly dont forget the seals and clamps themselves, sometimes the best deal can be got buying paired fittings with seal and clamp included especially if paying ebay pnp individually..
If wanting some freedom of rotation in the joint,( for a racking arm or valantine arm) while sealed use harder ptfe seals and not the silicone option, ptfe-less friction than wet silicone

If you do forget or lose a gasket you can diy one with a paper/card/plastic template undercut by a mm or 2 both inside and outside, and then wrapped round and round by threading a roll of ptfe through the centre, and keep on going round n round, keeping the tape in one piece unfrayed and taut.. you will end up with a nice fat and soft ptfe gasket that will compress to shape in the joint and when heated the ptfe will shrink onto itself sealing in the core template material.. if the centre hole is too small to pass the roll thru either demolish the roll sides n squeeze it thru or transfer the tape to a smaller bobbin

ist update for months n months..

Sure the 1/2" will be the bottleneck, I'm thinking though I could upgrade the size of the pumps if need be in future.
That's an interesting tip, about DIYing a gasket!
