I've done a couple of All Grain Brews but there is quite a gap under the Bazooka hop filter in my Buffalo Boiler. I plan to get round this by using a Stainless Steel False Bottom (Have already ordered from http://www.brewbuilder.co.uk/index.php? ... duct_id=99).
My question is; if I connect from the back of the 1/2" tap to the 3/8" barb at the top of the domed false bottom with Silicon Tube, is Silicon Tube safe for a 90 mi boil or will it react to a boil in acidic wort?

I have any many others do used silicone tube in the kettle. It's food safe at those temperatures.
If you consider a lot of modern bakeware is made of silicone you can feel pretty safe.

Many thanks - assumed it would be but thought I'd double check before making the modifications and a brew day in the next few days.

It's safe as said- used in baking at 250 degrees and lots of people use for gaskets for brewing. An alternative is to keep the bazooka (I use one in my boiler and it works really nicely) but use two right angled connectors and a bit of parallel threaded nipple to make a crank to lay the bazooka flat on the bottom of the boiler. That's what I've got. Limits the deadspace nicely. Cheaper than buying a whole false bottom although might be too late for this

With the Buffalo boiler you have to be careful not to lay anything directly on the element plate or the over temperature trip will start kicking in. I adjust mine so it is just a few millimetres above.BenB wrote:It's safe as said- used in baking at 250 degrees and lots of people use for gaskets for brewing.
