Happy with my new bit of kit!

Post by kearnage » Tue Feb 17, 2015 11:11 am

I was fortunate to win a beer engine on eBay that had been taken out of a recently refurbished pub for the grand sum of £3.24. I was expecting it to need a complete overhaul but when I got it I was pleasantly surprised.

It was a little grubby

But a quick clean up and it was looking great.

I took it apart and checked the inside of the cylinder and it was spotless. Must have been a good landlord. Well done sir!!
(Sorry I forgot to take a photo of that bit)

I got a set of sparklers and thought I would give each one a test in the interests of science you understand. All pints were from my rapidly diminishing barrel of Exmoor Gold.

Firstly the white sparkler:

Then the black sparkler:

And finally the green sparkler:

I forgot to take the photo of no sparkler at all, too many pints under by that point.

I've got a check valve in the post so that will soon be rigged up so that I can connect the pump to my corny keg. I suppose I'll have to do some more exhaustive testing when that is set-up too.

Oh well!!

Looks very nice! 8)

There's nothing like pulling a pint of your own beer through a real beer engine.

Thanks Jim

It's added a whole new level of enthusiasm to create new ales. I just need the time to brew more.

And I'm not sure it's just the placebo effect but I'm sure it tastes better now!

That's looking good. I've had a beer engine for a while but only very recently got it back in use with some Polykegs I'd been given. Perfectly poured every time. No faffing about with priming sugar etc. Finished installing a cask line so I pull some cask conditioned beer when it's done. Can't wait!

There's just something extremely satisfying about pulling your own pint.

I knew getting this would be a bad idea.

My remaining Exmoor Gold ran dry already. I need a lot more barrels and to get brewing a lot more frequently.
