or bigger, in the UK?

cheers

I bought a "finishing" hydrometer from Hop & Grape a few months ago. Good clear graduations. I think it was about 8 or 9 quid.

Try any lab supplier, most sell them.

I just had a look at the Murphy and sons ones, it looks like they sell a number of hydrometer for specific smaller scales, I'm after something like the williams one, that can do at least 1.000 to 1.100, but is at least 12" long. It looks like a finishing hydrometer, is also for a very narrow SG range as far as I can tell.

The longer it is the more beer you waste testing the sample. I found the best thing was a refractometer for brew day and a finishing hydrometer for FG.

i use one of these http://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/index.ph ... ductId=356

I find it much easier to read than the usual beer/wine hydrometers. The only trouble is they are a bit more expensive which makes it more painful if you drop it on a tiled floor.

You also need a larger trial jar, which is annoying.

That jar is the same jar i got with the old young's hydrometer. It does fit in but only just and when reaching the final gravity it has to be as full as it can or it sits on the bottom of the jar. I did buy the glass trial jar from the malt miller which is a a bit bigger, not to mention nice and clear but this also did not interact well with a tiled floor so i'm making do for now.
