So then guys,
I have 2 stc 1000 one for my FV fridge and one for my HLT/MT but there both 1.5c degress out.
so since I am not sure which is right which is not I feel I should get a thermopen to get things in right temp ranges.
Is this one going to work for what i need it for to get both my stcs even?

Yes, Thermapens are excellent. That said I found that my £2.99 glass thermometer was only 0.5C different from my Thermapen, so you might want to try calibrating against that first as it would give you a good indication which STC is in error. Maybe they both areDgrant81385 wrote:So then guys,

Thats a good price for a thermapen. The same company however do a 0.5 (rather than 0.4 for the thermapen) accuracy type catering pen thermometer for about 15 which is what I went for instead. Really good thermometer. 0.1degree better for over double the money? Perhaps. But when they're full price it's £15 vs £50 then it's an easy decision!
Re: thermometer thermopen / stc 1000
Its really tempting to buy.
But naturally I am hoping to find something cheaper that will still give accurate temps.

Also where I work the kitchen use food temperature probes so maybe I could just borrow one of them to get a good base temp for my stc's?
It's this one!

Re: thermometer thermopen / stc 1000
you could apply the calibration tests as found in the eti thermopen manual pdf
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... 5890,d.ZGU
pages 17-18.. and test your current equipment, if accurate (or show a consistent drift) at close to 0C and close to 100C
why buy anything..
fwiw i have a thermopen
nice big lcd screen is easy to read and its quick to zero in on a reading, tho if u get one it will end up living in the kitchen

I have a thermapen. Paid slightly less from their ebay store but I think they've increased their prices recently.
Re: thermometer thermopen / stc 1000
Yep, I have a thermopen as well, love it. As previously said it does live in the kitchen, breaking all of my rules about keeping brewing kit seperate, but it's too useful!
Agree with the point about testing at 0C and 100C though, at least worth seeing what they read.
0C - Crushed ice in a cup and a little water added so the ice is mostly in water but still touching the bottom of the cup
100C - Pan of boiling water
