I've decided to give up bottling and invest in a corny setup. I've been researching this on and off all week and I am a bit confused in exactly what I need.
Obviously the keg, a tap and a regulator but I'm confused about what fittings to get and then comes the tubing, tubing connectors (?) and then finally sourcing a "pub CO2 cylinder". All I know at this stage is I want a 23litre keg (the-home-brew-shop.co.uk seems cheapest at £88.44) and a good quality but reasonably priced tap and regulator. Can anyone help?
Corny kit list
Re: Corny kit list
Its been a while since i had kegs but think i had......
3/8 gas line from regulator to gas disconect on keg(grey disconect)
used 3/8 gas line for beer out(black disconect).to 5/16 beer line into tap used all jg fittings
Only fittings i used were
3/8 to 3/8 and 3/8 to 5/16
am sure some1 who still kegs will give u more info

Re: Corny kit list
Forgot to mention i got my gas from a brewery just ask for a bottle of c02 gas and i tell them its for welding as they get a bit funny if its for homebrew due to the bottles lasting so long

jg fittings are popular, on the gas side its 3/8" line all the way from the primary via any 2ndaries you may later install for a second serving pressure, all the way to the keg.
a basic welders reg for £25-30 will probably come with a barbed hosetail, you want a 1/4" barb to fit the 1/4" inside diameter of the 3/8" gas line. if using a barbed hosetail secure it with a jubilee clip.. just ensure the 2nd gauge (output) has a psi scale with 2psi increments not bars only or flow rate, there are a few options with welders regs.
for the beer the reason for stepping down is 2fold, firstly the tap may have a smaller fitting built in
but more likely to balance off the pressure in the keg before the beer hits the tap. The easy way to do this is with the 3/16" micro line
upto about 2m or 6ft ish ,, depending on the serving pressures you use.
What are you doing about temperature control, as without a stable keg temperature you dont have a reference for the pressure required to serve a beer.

Re: Corny kit list
Thanks for all the advice. So my kit list is currently:
I'm going to get a large beer fridge in the garage when we move later this year - until then I am going to stick my head in the sand when it comes to temperatures! Thanks for the link to the chart.

Re: Corny kit list
With that tap you will dispense just foam unless your beer is barely carbonated. You normally need to run some 3/16" line to drop the pressure before it gets to the tap. You'll then need 3/8" to 3/16" JG adapters. Also, instead of that tubing I'd suggest some proper beer line - I bought 30m of proper 3/8" beer line for £6. You can use it for gas and beer. It is much stiffer than the tubing you've linked to.
I don't use cornies but can't you get disconnects with JG fittings? (I use Sankey kegs).

Re: Corny kit list
that tube isnt beer/gas line and ist rigid enough for a tight seal in a jg fitting imho..
you want pressure rated gas/beer line which is semirigid needing elbow fitting to navigate corners
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-8-beer-pipe ... 43c32bd8d9
the 3/16" line will stop you pouring foam and waiting for a 1/8th of a pint of the flattest beer
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beer-pipe-3-1 ... 4626bcc358
just the 1st 2 i saw on ebay after searching for beerline
edit that tap is about as usefull as a chocolate teapot only useful for beer served with just enough pressure to move it out.. i have one u can have it for a tenner.. tho i would be stealing your money
