Gas fire thermocouple for boiling ring FFD?

Post by Kev888 » Sun Mar 01, 2015 8:52 pm

My burner/boiling-ring has a flame failure device (FFD) that uses a thermocouple positioned in the flames:

which 'looks' very like the type used in gas fires and similar to those used in gas boilers:

I'm fitting the burner into a shroud and want to reposition the thermocouple on the inside of the ring, but to do so I'd need one with a slightly longer 'lead'. I can work out if the threads/fittings match, but does anyone know if the gas fire or boiler types are likely to be functionally compatible? I don't know if all these things are more or less the same or not.

IIRC the 'universal' types used to fit nearly every gas valve going, so I wouldn't be surprised. At the price, probably worth a suck it and see...

Reminds me of a chap whose display fridge I looked at, compressor wouldn't run. Turns out he had been fiddling with it and snapped the capillary on the thermostat... then joined it back together with a bit of 5A connector.

Great, many thanks. Sounds like its at least worth a punt then :)

Heh, that capillary 'fix' sounds like a little bit of knowledge... but not enough!
