Yep that’s right 2 nice analogue meters to show the HLT and mash temperatures ,and because i could ive also chucked in a nice retro 7 segment led display. To set the desired temperature just dial it in on the ole skool thumbwheel switch, the added advantage is you can see at a glance what youve set and its very easy to adjust the target temperature,no need to step through menus or press buttons. The led display can show mash temperature ,target temperature or HLT temperature, selected by the middle switch , boiler output is a controlled by a relay switched from the left hand switch, going no were near the control circuit. The HLT output is ssr controlled ,the HLT switch makes or breaks the low voltage control line into the SSR allowing me to turn it off regardless of what the controller is trying to do.Temperature sensors are dallas 1820 ,1 for the mash, the one for the hlt and the main control board is an arduino mega. All thats left to do is replace the tape labels with some nice engraved ones, maybe.

well that didnt last long, seems like the voltage regulator on the chinese knock off ardunio megas dont like having 10 volts shoved em #-o .Left the unit on test over night and this morning the display and meters were doing strange things.external psu was still in spec, tried powering it via usb and it was fine, back to external psu all good for a bit then the strangeness reappeared. So tweak the code and cram it all onto a genuine ardunio leonardo, its been on test for a few hours without any problems so hopefully problem solved

Hi Hippy, could you explain this bit for me? Does it mean you keep the high-wattage cables away from the sensitive/low voltage stuff?

No mate, the boiler is turned on and off using the switch via a relay and isn’t connected to the ardunio control board thats running everything else.

Ah, got it. Thanks. That's a nice bit of kit — very 'homebrew'. 8)
