Wooden Barrels

Post by Ravenhook » Tue Jun 02, 2015 6:58 pm

Do any of the breweries sell off old but serviceable barrels these days?? I would like a 9 gal firkin...I used to have one years ago which I put my brew in but long since gone.
I tried Wadworth who are just down the road from me but they have stopped using them and only use metal casks now.
I bought one of those 25 litre oak ones...but they have no character and are "sterile" in their newness.
Any ideas please.

I got a wooden pin from theakstons which is around 4.5 gal I think, with beer in, and was able to keep it by forfeiting the
deposit, I forget how much it was though afraid, I think it may have been £160 or £120 in total.
