I'd be surprised if it was safe.
You'd need to look for the food-safe symbol thats on safe plastic vessels.

I think it's exceptionally unlikely to be food safe. As I understand it, it's not just the material used that is the issue, but also the dyes used to colour it. In general I think they are not considered food safe.
If you want something that size that is food safe, there are 200l barrels used for importing olives that might suit.

Thanks, yeah I have seen the UN grade barrels before, but was looking a B&Q because it'd be easier to get hold of heh.

If you have a hunt on ebay you may find some that are fairly cheap even with delivery. Certainly fairly comparable to the B&Q price.

I use a similar one for its intended purpose i.e. a water butt. When i got it i lifted off the lid and saw there was some pipework loose inside. So in i go head first to retrieve said pipe work. Well never again the fumes and smell coming off the barrel makes me think its definetly not food safe. Ok for the plants maybe though
