Bottle capper

Post by suitsyousir » Fri Jun 12, 2015 7:52 pm

Hi all

I have used the black plastic bottle capper (the one you get from Wilkos) for a few years and it has finally given up the ghost and doesn't work. Should I get a replacement the same or one like this?

I was thinking about a bench capper but wasn't sure if it had to be clamped to the work surface; I bottle in my kitchen so this is not really an option.

TIA

I use a bench capper, without it being clamped down, works fine for me

I swapped just like you recently and my bench capper from Amazon has a sort of non slip bottom so no need to fix it to the bench if you don't want to. I use it in the kitchen then put it away afterwards.

Look at the Malt Miller site there is a really good one that auto adjusts for different size bottles.

A bench capper is the way to go, sooo much easier. No need to screw it down. I have one of these... https://www.home-brew-hopshop.co.uk/cap ... p-255.html

Is the bench capper significantly easier to use than the two-handed one?

I don't mind the two-handed one myself (he says, despite having broken the neck of a bottle this morning whilst putting a cap on :) but capping is something my son is keen to help with and given that he's never been particularly well coordinated and is approaching an age when he'll probably start to become even less so, perhaps a bench capper might make life easier all round...

I find it much easier, but my 11yr old can't get the knack of putting enough pressure on the lever.

ok, thanks for your input all. I didn't realise the bench ones did not need clamping down. Might have a rethink. Cheers
