Yellow pH Meters....any good?

Post by nigebeer » Thu Aug 27, 2015 5:30 pm

Does anyone use the yellow ph meters that are advertised on ebay for around £6, and are they any good?

:D

I use PH papers for both my mash PH and also to check the PH of my SanStar to make sure it's still effective. Recently, I've moved to the 'narrow' band strips, as they're a bit more accurate.

I've got one of the yellow ones I bought when I first started all grain brewing, it's a load of rubbish, I got similar strips the week after.

I have a yellow one and calibrate it with buffer solutions. It's fine

My yellow one was a tenner including delivery. I've only used it a couple of times but it seems to work fine.

I should point out though that if your alkalinity is ok and you have enough calcium in the mash, your pH will fall in the right ballpark anyway

Use a yellow meter myself - works fine, just make sure to calibrate it fairly regularly
