10 Gallon SS Brewtech Mash Tun Reviews?
Hi all
I'm very tempted to treat myself to one of these -

Just interested to hear from anyone else that has purchased one.
Cheers

Think these were mentioned a few weeks ago in this forum subsection. Think the general point I got was you can get a thermo pot conversion for less.
Re: 10 Gallon SS Brewtech Mash Tun Reviews?
Looked at these also... you do get the bottom drain, ball lock , false bottom, temperature gauge & sparging connection with this. Side by side it must be close in cost when you factor all the parts in when buying a converted thermo?
Re: 10 Gallon SS Brewtech Mash Tun Reviews?
That's pretty cool, didn't realise they were bottom draining.
Re: 10 Gallon SS Brewtech Mash Tun Reviews?
I started this thread viewtopic.php?t=73126
I started out thinking they were pricey, but once I stacked up all the features & quality (the other SS Brewtech stuff I have is great) it seems like a decent price for what should be a really useable long lasting piece of kit.
So I ordered one and it should arrive tomorrow! I'll do and unboxing writeup then a review when I get to use it.

I also see they have this due to be released in the states. the recirc port is very interesting, especially for those of us who RIMS/HERMS. Main concern though would the price of it as can see it being quite a bit higher than the 10 gallon

Re: 10 Gallon SS Brewtech Mash Tun Reviews?
Fwiw my 80l thermopot tun has next to zero deadspace with its bottom drain sat less than 1 cm from the front, a simple tip forward drains all the last runnings sat under the FB, totally negating the few mm the skin fitting drain flange stands proud..
cost wise .. its been a while
iirc £95 80 l thermopot delivered
£40-50 for the FB from Mrlard
£15 for a 1/2" SS thru the deck skin fitting
£20 for SS valve, washers, 90 degree elbow, and connecting nipple..
£2 SS nuts n bolts for FB legs..
£15 - qmax 1/2" (20mm) punch cutter
btw thermopot SS is waffer thin compared to stockpot SS and way easier to drill cut, and punch out
granted i have no sparge arm etc included in that
The only tricky bit is grinding down the skin fitting and the corresponding elbow it connects to, but all u need is patience and a belt sander, (argos one and return it if needs be hehe)
bottom skin removed with a dremil or tinsnips to reveal the inner skin and markup for the hole

hardware to connect to the valve checked for positioning..

hole punched out with the qmax..

drain fitted

valve fitted and leak testing (full suspended over tissue paper hehe)

and in use..
about 15kg malt bill

underletting

Mashing

and time for a beer ....

Re: 10 Gallon SS Brewtech Mash Tun Reviews?
I'm all for DIY, but really liked the look of this MT, and have been using my converted cooler mash tun that has served me well for 3 years now, but wanted to treat myself!
I went ahead and ordered one today, and it's arriving tomorrow
My maiden brew with it, will be Jim's ESB on the brewalong weekend.
I will review the MT in due course.
Cheers

You want it, You Get it. That always works for me
Im sure it will serve you well..
and enjoy the pre delivery anticipation too..
be warned, tho im sure your aware, a big metal tun takes a lot more pre-warming than a smaller plastic cold box... consider upping your strike temp a degree or 2 as well as the few kettle fuls of off the boil water in the tun to preheat

Come on guys, surely you've managed to open the boxes by now?!

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.
Re: 10 Gallon SS Brewtech Mash Tun Reviews?
After unboxing and assembling first impressions are very good.
Very solid and well made with a slightly different ‘feel’ to other SS Brewtech products which I put down to the different nature of this product – it’s not just stainless steel but a more complex assembly of several materials. There are a few slightly messy welds on the base and where the threaded tap connects to the body, but then I’m being really picky even mentioning those.
Looking forward to getting my first mash on in it shortly.
