Camlocks

Post by m_rawdin » Wed Feb 03, 2016 9:24 pm

I want to fit a camlock onto my pump, the camlock has a 1/2 inch female thread but the pump looks to be 3/4 inch male thread. Does anyone know where I can get a reducer so I can attach it?

You can certainly get 3/4 to 1/2 thread reducers but you might need a coupling to attach it.
But just a thought and not knowing your set up the intake on the pump is generally bigger than the out going to allow the pump to run efficiently.
What type of pump is it and are you using hoses, the best option would be to get a 3/4 cam lock fitting.
I've used these https://www.ukpumpsupplies.co.uk
In the past.

Just remember that 1/2"BSP refers to the diameter of the interior of the pipe and NOT the size of the fitting! The fitting is actually about 21-22mm diameter (close to 3/4"). A simple way to confirm it is to nip to a plumbers merchant and buy a 1/2" BSP female fitting (say a 1/2" Tap connector) and try it!

What pump do you have? The only one I've seen with 3/4" threading is my Cellar Pump, most on the home brew market are 1/2"

+1 to the pump intake likely to be the larger port, it is on my MMay pump at least.

I used a 3/4" to 1/2" f/f reducer from BES.co.uk (in the ss pipe and fittings section- not the easiest site to navigate..)

One thing that concerned me was the narrow bore of SS hosebarb connectors on the camlock/hosebarb fittings 8-10mm???

SO.. i sourced female threaded camlock female couplers for the termination of hoses and fitted in 1/2" weld niples into the threaded aspect, this provided me with a 22mm barrel onto which i secured 19mm inside diameter silicone tube with a jubilee clip.. all hot side pipework is in the larger bore tube ;)
