Been looking at one of the adverts - brew jacket

Post by aamcle » Wed Feb 17, 2016 12:16 am

It's about $300, err can some body please tell me its not a repackaged PC water cooler with a Peltier and a thermostat? Oh and least I forget a hot water tank jacket.

Pump..........................................£11.70
Block 40x80x12mm.........................£3.12
Peltier 231 Watt.............................£2.59
Fan ....80mm................................£1.98
Heatsink......................................£1.39
Thermostat with remote probe...........£6.81 (STC type)
Power supply.................................£15.84
Sundries.......................................£10

Get change from £50 a top build for £75 its still cheaper to use an old fridge.

Yes it was a banner advert that appears on the front page of Jim's site.
The wonders of Internet advertising, I don't think it's even aimed at the UK but we are afflicted with it regardless.
But then it helps to pay Jim's bills :)

I'd love to see you build one yourself with those components. A second hand fridge is usually cheaper, but also takes up a lot more space.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

They look nice, though. I once tried making a similar sort of jacket out of an old sleeping bag. Result: disaster. When my sewing machine skills have improved a bit I might have another go.

Noop I have a fridge, free from freecycle or freegle I'm not sure which.

When the fridge packs up, its old, I'll look for another I'd enjoy building the chiller but I don't need it and don't want to pay for it.

I think that it may be even be more trouble than a fridge and it has to be put somewhere so how much space does it really save?
