Buster that happened to me a couple of days ago. Conditioning bottles in the fridge and the heater stopped working after faffing around with the heater i figured it was the STC. while messing around on top of the fridge the STC clicked so i assume it was a stuck relay, are there relays in these things? Give yours a tap and see.
good luck

Yes , there are 2 relays but they are controlled from the microprocessor.....mine is dead (No front LED) nothing. Power is going to it as I have checked.

The relays are easy to desolder and replace. Just look at the values on the side to get a replacement. Although probably just as easy to get a new STC.

Cheers Bob, but aren't the relays on the output side ?? How would that stop the thing from powering up, I have approx 13v coming from the bridge rectifier, which is correct as I checked it against a working one but it still wont light up ??

Personally I'd file it under B1N and buy a new one for £12. Or you may risk spending out and still having to replace. At £12 it is relatively low cost.

Only one I have had fail was a sensor error, but it was displaying weird temps. I would just dump it as they aren't really user repairable.

" YAY " \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ "YAY" Sorted it at last, the ON/OFF momentary push to make switch had somehow got jammed stopping it from turning on. I managed to meter it in both modes and there was no continuity when pushed or hald for 3 seconds, so it was permanently in the OFF state. I bridged the contacts for 3 seconds and it burst into life, so I have soldered 2 Kynar wires to the switch and trailed them out the air vent just incase it goes back to the off state so I can reset it back on. Happy ending :D

I don't know much about electronics but if I were you I'd still change it for a new unit. Faulty electronics could be a fire risk.

If It was the on/off switch. Which to turn it on/off you have to push and hold it. I'm not sure how can that be a fire risk.

Agreed a stuck switch is not a fire hazard unless it is stuck ON.

Agree 100% ... its only a push to make switch. I decided to replace it anyways, its one of these.

Very common, arduino/pi projects use them. I think I have several lying about here.

Same here, I have a load of old boards with them on from old projects. Made Sunday interesting and delivered great satisfaction in the joy of "Fixed it"... also saved around £12.00 in the process. :D
