Removing thermostat from fridge

Post by Secla » Thu Mar 31, 2016 3:52 pm

Got a freebie fridge to turn into another fermentation chamber but it's quite small so thought I'd remove the thermostat/ light from the interior to allow a bit more room
Bit of a bad move on my part as electronics are not my strong point and I can't get it to fire up now

Anyone got a quick how to ?

I've got to blues for the light I'm assuming I can loop ?
Then an earth 2 Browns (neutrals ?) and a grey

Any pointers ?

I'd say no. There is a power line running in and out of the thermostat which should be joined. Everything else should be isolated/insulated. But wait for an electrician to ask you for photos before turning yourself into Blackpool illuminations following my advice!
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

nope brown is live as should be grey. Best way is wire a new cable straight into the compressor motor

Brown's live as that's the colour your pants will go if you touch it!

I was thinking this, but as you can tell from my previous postings that may not end well for me

Right I think this may be the easiest way

I have a new length of flex
Earth to the frame
Live to where the grey is
Neutral to blue

Remove all the other unused and it should run permanently on so I can plug into stc

Mission success
Wired the compressor up directly and removed all the other wires

Can turn my chest freezer into a kegerator now

Well done Secla. As someone who's just about to buy a chest freezer for a keezer can you explain why you need control of the compressor rather than just setting it to the lowest and having an STC turning the power on and off via the plug?

The only reason I removed the thermostat is it was a slim fridge and the light and thermostat were on the side so it limited the space in the fridge

I used my chest freezer before and as you said just plugged it straight into the stc
