4.5 Gallon Cask

Post by smuggles » Mon Apr 18, 2016 6:31 pm

Does anyone know where I might be able to buy a 4.5 gallon cask?

The only place I've found is brewuk, but they've been out of stock for a few weeks and they don't seem to know when they'll be back in stock. I've seen brewery plastics mentioned, but they only seem to sell to breweries. If anyone has any other ideas or leads I'd be very grateful.

I guess you mean metal rather than wood?

I bought a wood one with beer in from Theakstons

http://shop.crusaderkegsandcasks.com/45 ... k-97-p.asp -- they only sell at a minimum of 25 according to that :(

Check http://www.brewuk.co.uk/4-5gal-cask.html

Edit : Doh, you'd mentioned brewuk

Checkout http://www.kegandcask.net/ which I found from http://siba.co.uk/cask-manufacturers-le ... -services/

It does say no minimum order

If you don't mind, that would be perfect. And no, I have no problem with it being used. Thanks. :)

I'd be interested in another plastic pin :-)

I spoke to them again today and he wants £15 each for them (which I think is expensive for them used) if you want one shipped I can send by myhermes with the shipping label just stuck to the cask so no packing for £25 paid direct into my account or you can collect from Copthorne near Gatwick for £15 cash. PM me if your interested I think he has quite a few. Note from using these I can say they are a nightmare to hammer in the shive as the plastic flexes and absorbs the hammer blow and they never go all the way in but they still work fine. Alternatively I will likely be ordering from crusader soon and can likely undercut brew uk very slightly on the metal crusader ones.

Well, it turns out I was wrong about Brewery Plastics and they do sell individual casks to individuals, so I've ordered one of those for now. I may well decide I need a second in the near future and take you up on your offer though, so thanks for finding out about those.

Are the shives you used the ones Brewery PLastics manufacture? They recommend using their own, but didn't answer my question about whether other shives would work. And similarly, did you use the keystones they recommend, or will any no.2 keystone work?

How much was your 4.5 gallon cask with postage

It was £48 total, which breaks down to about £35 for the cask and £13 postage, so I think £15 for a used one is reasonable, assuming it's in decent condition.

There recommended ones are the ones that are a nightmare to get in and don't go fully in the other standard ones we use can go in but its almost impossible. I think any key stones work fine.
