Building a brew shed
Hello all,
Have been pretty quiet of late in forums as have been kept busy with life in general, and the last couple of months have been even more busy than usual, I have just moved out of London down to cider country and i left behind a massive (treble) garage and moved into a house with a small dilapidated shed at the bottom of the garden, and have spent the last 4 weeks building a new brew space. It not finished yet but its taking shape and i took a fair few pictures and have just put this blog post together of the build so far!

Its been a hard slog for the last few weeks but hopefully i will be brewing again soon!
Cheers
Rich

Fascinating and I'm very jealous
Exellent site as well I've been reading my way through it for the last half hour. Looking forward to seeing progress on this.

That's some build!
Re: Building a brew shed
That looks awesome!
I noticed you mention a 60A supply, what power elements are you planning on using for the HLT/Boiler out
of interest? And what size will you be brewing at?

The most i ever run is 3 x 3kw elements at once so may be 40amps max, but most of the time the elements are never running at full power, but there will also be fridges and light running with will use a couple more amps.chris2012 wrote:That looks awesome!

My batch size range from 50L to 140L but i have double batched in a day to fill whisky and wine barrels.

Awesome
How hard is it to get hold of whisky barrels out of interest, as that sounds a great project. I contacted a small distillery
in London, which uses blood tub sized barrels, but they didn't seem to sell used ones alas.

There easy to get hold of, Speyside Cooperage is a good place to start, but they are not cheap!

Cracking build!! With the floor paint I highly recommend getting a floor paint set that comes with acid. The acid will take that dusty top coat off the concrete so the paint will key lovely. Built up 6 coats of light grey in my shed and it's a great finish.
As I painted the blocks white I also masked off 3 inches of the bottom of the wall and painted that with the floor paint too. Like a skirting. Keeps it looking tidy if you get the mop in there.

I will paint up one course of blocks with the floor paint, which is where the OSB starts, on the all block walls they will be painted white again with the floor paint coming up 1 block.alexlark wrote:Cracking build!! The plan is to use Unibond on the concrete, give it a couple of coats to seal it before going at it with a load of Farrall and Ball floor paint i got for 10 quid a tin (instead of £55)
